Since I plan to use large text extensively on my exhibition wall and in my portfolio, I conducted further research on fonts... I focused primarily on collecting serif fonts because they have a more classical beauty, which aligns with the historical tone of my project.
I searched for some serif fonts I found on the ‘Font in Use’ (https://fontsinuse.com) website again, and it provided me with some usage examples. It was very intuitive and helpful!
Lyga is restrained and balanced, with a sharply angled italic style, and I find its numerals very elegant. However, it has an overall crisp and sharp feel, with many pointed elements, which clashes with the more rounded edges of my main visual design. Therefore, I decided not to choose it.Jaeyou Chung’s rebrand for Beijing’s X Museum features a typeface inspired by twisted dimensions and chair legs. Although it’s not available for download, I really like this font.
Ogg is a typeface designed by American designer Lucas Sharp, blending calligraphy and serif design. It has a classical beauty with a sense of elegance. I chose it as the font for the book title because it has a more approachable feel rather than being overly solemn.
‘Ogg keeps the classical attitude of serifs — elegant, romantic, and meandering. At the same time, it also contains some contemporary aesthetics — odd, sharp, and loud,’Garamond (1480-1561) is inspired by the handwritten calligraphy style of the Renaissance, embodying elegance and refinement.Times New Roman was designed by British typographer Stanley Morison in 1931. He aimed to create a typeface suitable for newspaper printing. This font has been widely used in both print and digital document typesetting. It features clear contrast between thick and thin strokes, along with small decorative serifs.Georgia is a font I like to use for thesis titles. Its clear serifs, noticeable stroke contrast, and elegant letter shapes convey a sense of professionalism and reliability.
I worked with Print It to create vinyl lettering that I will transfer onto the exhibition wall. Additionally, I ordered some medium-sized scratch-off tools, but they haven’t arrived yet. Since I plan to test the size on the exhibition wall first, I also printed out some cards of the same size. Next, it's time to move on to the setup on-site!!
